Every time I start up my computer, Windows XP, provides
the following error message in a "rundll" error box.

Error Loading C:\Windows\image.dll
The specified module could not be found.

Last night, I accidentally mistyped a frequented website
of a national newspaper and got one of those "pop-up"
mania sites which seemed to install something on my
computer. I erased everything possible that it installed
and I did not have any system restore points, so that
will not work.

The only lasting effect after scanning my computer and
doing everything else possible was the above error
message.

Does anybody have any ideas?

C:\Windows\image.dll is usually associated with worm related virus or a spyware program. Do you have anti-virus software installed on your PC? If so, make sure your virus definitions are up to date and perform a full scan. Another very handy application is Ad-aware 6.0 It's freeware from www.lavasoftusa.com Make you also get the latest reflist from their website when you install Ad-aware. You will be very surprised at how many instances of spyware it will find.

Good Luck!

and in internet explorer ,tools,options,advanced,uncheck
both of'enable install on demand',apply. this should keep
the hijackers away for little ooops on your part.
