Run once a day

Gery

Hi to all and a very merry christmas.

I use AVG free and it did keep my PC out of trouble so far.

Just on thing is annoying me. It runs runs when ever I switch the PC
on and blocks me for near a minute or so from using the PC.

Can this be changed in (the registery) to run only once a day?

(AVG has no config. option to do this.)

Regards Gery

Tanks for any reply

On the free AVG V. 7.5, go to Control Center. When there, from Reduced
mode (F3) click Scheduler and then click on Scheduled tasks. In scheduled
tasks click on Test plan in basic mode. Click Edit schedule. Turn off the
check in the radio button for "If missed, start....." This will prevent the
scan from running immediately when starting the computer.

Let us know if that fixes your problem.

The one "gotcha" on this is that it means that you may never scan your
system at all. At issue is the scheduled time for your scan. On the free
version, it chooses the time, and if that time is not a time you typically
have your system turned on, then it will miss the scan. The "catch all" for
that is the "If missed, start...." option, which monitors on startup and
checks whether it missed the last scan or not. If it missed the last scan,
it kicks it off immediately. Well, if you do not check for last scan being
missed, and always miss the scan because you have the system turned off,
then you will have no full scans unless you manually start it.

Now, does this mean you have no protection? It only means you don't get full
scans - any of the "live" checking that AVG does is still active as you
download and start new programs and whatnot. In the end, you have less
protection, but you are not without protection.

As an aside, one of the things I like about using Avast instead of AVG or
some other anti-virus program, is that you can set it to run automatically
whenever your Screen Saver kicks in.
