I recently built my first gaming computer and after a couple days it made
this rumbling noise everytime I started the PC. It also stays rumbling like
somethings wrong. Then I Push the power button to turn it off 2 times and it
stops rumbling and continues as any computer would. Could this be a harddrive
problem or what exactly could be wrong? I recently bought an 80 GB HD so I'm
not sure its that.

There is only so many moving parts in a PC. Take the side cover off and
listen to were it is coming from. Case fans can be unplugged temporarily -
but not the CPU fan or you risk damaging the CPU. With trial and error you
should figure it out.

Hi Josh,

If the sound is kinda like a whirling noise, its probably a fan bearing that
is bad. If its a whine with clicking noise, usually means a hard drive.
You are probably hearing a bad fan, even new fans can have a bad bearing.

had a similar problem with a friends and it was the fan on the video card
just open the side and stop the fans with your finger until you find the bad
one, that is if it is a fan.

Since you built the computer, remove the cover and identify the
component making the noise.

The rumbling could be a fan going bad, or a wire or cable making contact
with fan blades. It could also be the sound of a Hard Drive going bad.
Open the case and turn the power on, and see if you can locate exactly where
the sound is coming from. I would be very cautious about poking my fingers
where they don't belong as a previous poster suggested. Some fans can do
serious damage to a fingertip, and if your finger touches anything and
completes a circuit, you're gonna get zapped and will probably fry your new
computer.
