Hello All

I currently use Outlook Express for emailing, with Office 97, but I think I
need to move to Outlook97 now because ...

I regularly receive 3-5 important emails per week from each of around 110
(specified) people - so around 330-550 emails per week (plus about the same
number again of spams and other miscellaneous emails). For all the emails
from the 110 specified people I want to do two things:

1) Print them
2) Maintain an electronic copy of the email in a specific folder (different
folder for each person - so 110 folders will be set up).

I need these two things to happen automatically, without user intervention,
so that means Rules - and it seems Outlook Express fails at the first hurdle
because there is no Print action available. So:

Question 1
I assume that I can put the 110 people into a distribution list and then
have one rule to print anything received from any member of that list?

Question 2
Is going to be a problem with my having around 110 rules (and this number
will increase steadily): is there a max number, and even if not will the
software 'grind' working its way through this many rules?

Question 3
As I would need all (4) users on the network to have access to the emails,
would it be better to save the emails to a shared Outlook folder (in which
case I think I would need Exchange Server - £££ so not keen!!), or to a
Windows folder (free, but I can't see a rule to do this - unless it would be
a 'custom action' ??)

I hope someone can advise.

Many thanks
Les

I don't think so. At least, my brief experiment shows that Outlook does not
detect mail coming from a member of a DL to be as coming from the DL itself.

There's no maximum number of rules. There is a maximum size of 32K
characters, I believe, for all rules combined. Having one rule with 110
names in it is more effecient than having 110 rules with one name in each.

Exchange server is less expensive when purchased as part of SBS. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm for ideas on sharing folders.

Hello Brian

Thanks for your speedy reply!

When you say "one rule with 110 names in it is more effecient than having
110 rules with one name in each", I'm nit sure this will be possible for me
because each person's email will need to be saved to a different folder
('their' folder). Do you agree?

What is SBS that you refer to - and is it clear to you that this is what I
need?

Thanks again
Les

Yes, I agree.

Small Business Server.
