Hi,

I have a rule in Outlook XP SP-2 that is set up to
permanently delete email that matches the criteria. It
works and actually permanently deletes these emails, but
Outlook still gives me a notification that I have new
email. It will either popup the "new mail" dialog or give
me the "new mail" icon in the system tray. Why does it do
this and is there a way to stop it without turning off all
new email notifications?

Thanks,

Kevin

Nope. The new e-mail notification occurs BEFORE any rules get
exercised. There is no way to configure the new e-mail notification to
wait until after all rules have been exercised and then check if any new
messages are left in the Inbox. About the only way to circumvent this
defect is to turn off new e-mail notification. Then define a rule at
the end of the list that pops open a notification window saying you have
new e-mail. All your other rules for getting rid of spam must have the
"stop processing more rules" clause to prevent getting to this last
"notify me" rule.
