I don't know about "based on Gecko"...but I have tried 4 different
rss readers in the last few weeks, and Great News from Curio Studio is
the one I keep returning to. It is standalone, it has a non-confusing
GUI, and it is fast and constantly updated & improved.

(If you want to see how fancy & complex they CAN get, try wTicker at
http://wticker.org/ ...it will scroll on the bottom or your scree and
do MANY tricks...but you'd best be ready to study it!)

Great News just shows simple feeds.

one called Ablion is similar, but has an interface that seems to
insist on opening all clicks in new tabs, and I don't care for
that....

I know it but its engine is based on Internet explorer...
I never could see how to find that out....is it a problem that MOST
rss is based on IE? I, also would rather not deal with IE types, but I
guess I'll live with it until I see an alternative,

is it a problem that MOST rss is based on IE?

Maybe not most, but a lot. But is it a problem? Most people prefer to
not write their own browser control, TCP stack, etc.
