I am trying to install a game on my PC which I just
restored after being infected by a worm and I keep geting
the same error message...

"The Installshield Engine (ikernel.exe)
could not be launched. The RPC server
is unavailable."

Does anyone know how to resolve this? Please!!!

Hi BABI,

Perhaps your RPC service has been shut off? To turn it back
on, click Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services,
scroll down to the "Remote Procedure Call" entry on the list,
right click on it, and select Start from the menu. Good luck! :)

And while there, check to make sure Cryptographic Services hasn't also been
shut down. Some people follow suggestions to "tweak" Windows XP for "speed"
from a couple web sites and a magazine article, without knowing what those
recommendations break. Unless Cryptographic Services is functional, an
installation won't take place.
