RPC service terminated unexpectedly

Mike Jackman

When I'm logged onto the Internet (a 53K connection),
within 15 minutes (or less) I get a dialogue box that
says my computer will shut down within 60 seconds because
of NT Authority/System. That the Remote Procedure Call
service has terminated unexpectedly.

What do I need to fix this?

Thanks.

I have the same problem on a computer that I am
consulting on. My first thought was the Blaster worm, so
I downloaded and brought over McAfee Stinger, but it did
not detect anything. I also looked over the MSBlaster
information at pchell.com, but none of the files or
registry keys that the article indicated were present on
the computer. I installed the DCOM/RPC Exploit Patch
anyway but the problem persists. The computer has WinXP
and connects to thje Internet using a modem. The problem
pops up after connecting to the Internet and loading
Internet Explorer. All critical updates have been
installed, and I am at a loss as what to look into next.

Had the same problem. It was a worm. In fact had to get
rid of three. The culprit was the Welchia worm. Also had
the spybot and msblast.a worms. The spybot was the hardest
to get rid of. Well anyway access
www.housecall.antivirus.com and use that program to try to
get rid of the worm.
Hope that this helps.

PS I had to use that program even thought I've got
Norton's antivirus.
