rpc server unavailable when attempting to update time.

Is the time service actually started?
Have you tried a different time (NNTP) server?

yes i have tried all the servers, and disabled the firewall. win xp home
sp2, zonealarm, dell optiplex.
advise as to how to start the time service if it is disabled?

Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services --> Windows Time.

BTW - if you tried "all the servers", you must be the worlds fastest typist.

1.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Command Prompt.
2.Type
net start w32time
and then press ENTER.
