I think it may be related, and theres fixes linked there too. Download the
correct fix from the list on the page. Its a long page and may take a while
to load if you are on a dialup.

Has anyone confirmed this fix?

I find it off that the update came out in mid/end july,
and people's PCs are going crazy only today...

Nothing strange about the dates.
A script kiddie somewhere is attacking the unprotected machines, that's
all.
This fix has been available for nearly a month and has been talked about in
the
papers on on the national news for weeks. (at least in the US)
This is the reason users need to keep thier computers up to date and NOT
disable autoupdates.
