RPC failed message

Dear smarter-than-me users:
I keep getting system shutdown warnings with the
explanation that "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) has
failed". This limits my ability to use the computer to
about 5 minutes at a time. Please advise what I can do to
remedy. Running XP with no networking, connected via DSL,
through earthlink.

You've been infected with the 'Blaster' virus or similar. You need a
session with some anti-vrus software, such as the Grisoft\AVG6\AVGW.exe
which seems to do the job (finding and cleansing) reliably and robustly, and
it's a freebie

Or hit the Microsoft website, for a security hotfix from Update, or their
Blaster worm removal tool
