row lookup help!

OK here is my dalema.

I am goin on two weeks trying to solve this formula. :(

Ok on one sheet I have a single description and qty with 4 merged cell
and the data in the top cell. With each merged cell I have 4 cells fo
mfg and mfg part numbers like so.

mfg a mfg pn a
Descrip Qty mfg b mfg pn b
mfg c mfg pn c
mfg d mfg pn d

We send a sheet out to our vendors to quote and we were trying t
eliminate duplicate information.

With that in mind on a second sheet our engineering department puts i
the mfg list by description. For each mfg and part number there is
description in this format

descrip a mfg a mfg pn a
descrip a mfg b mfg pn b
descrip a mfg c mfg pn c
descrip b mfg a1 mfg pn a1
descrip b mfg a2 mfg pn a2
descrip c mfg b1 mfg pn b1

I have tried index and match as well as hlookup and some of the othe
many things listed on this site. If anyone has any ideas as to how
can get the right mfg pn to the right single description it would b
greatly appreciated.

As a side note we only send out 4 mfgs and mfg pns but there be mor
then 4 on the list.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Try the V-lookup, then do a pivot table (do a count on
the items that you trying to narrow duplicates down on).
If the value is greater than 1, you know that you have
duplicates.

Good luck

Terri,
i already tried the pivot table idea and that really didn't help m
much.

Does anyone else have any ideas? All ideas are greatly appreciated.
