Row height

I'd need to be able to format my rows to increase in
height automatically (as needed) when data is entered.

I've set the format to be "word wrap" and text does start
on a new line within the same cell but the cell is then
too small.

I'll have hundreds of rows so would rather not rely on
manual resizing.

It sounds to me like you manually set the row height. Try autofitting your row
heights and then put some text into a cell.

Does it resize automatically?

If I set the rowheight manually, excel respects my setting and won't change it.
If I leave it autofit, then it will.

It sounds like you have the shrink to fit property turned on for the cells.
Uncheck it.
