Row > Height > Autofit messed up

Excel 2000

I accidentally had two sheets selected and was manipulating some row formatting
on one. Of course, the corresponding rows on the second sheet were
reformatted, but in a weird way -- their heights were increased beyond what is
needed to fit the text.

When I attempt to rectify this by pointing to Row > Height > Autofit, the
height remains too tall. If I set the heights manually, then point to Row >
Height > Autofit, the height goes back to the over-tall height (sometimes the
maximum 409 points allowed in Excel).

Is there any way to get Row > Height > Autofit back on track?

Thanks.

You could reset the row heights manually by using Fomat/Row Height s
you do not need to change too many afterwards

Yes, but then if you add text to the cell and it flows down beyond the existing
cell height, the row no longer adjusts automatically. So then you have to
doublecheck for the visibility of all rows manually.
