Router or Access Point?

I want to share ADSL line between my PC, a laptop (or
possibly two), a printer and a scanner. A router is my
preferred option. Hwever I have also heard of 'Access
Point' devices which can do the same job at cheaper cost.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a
router and an access point? Thanks.

A router routes packets to the Internet or internally, through your local
network. An access point is exactly that, a point where your wireless
network access your wired network. Some routers have both.

An access point can't access the Internet and a router can't provide an
access point for your wireless card. However, a router with a built in
switch and access point would be ideal. It will do everything you need.
