Router help

I'm trying to get a D-link wireless router to work on my system(Presario
5423US with WinXP).I'm connecting it directly to the router, and planning to
use the wireless connection with a laptop. So far,I've connected the modem to
the router, and my system to the router. All lights are lit on both router and
modem as they should be,when I check my ethernet card on local network
connections,it says connected, but try to connect with my ISP(Verizon DSL)I
can't make a connection.Somewhere in the vague instructions it mentions
unistalling PPoE software such as WinPoet and Enternet 300,or these programs
will prevent a connection.I don't have these programs installed, but would
the software I originally installed for Verizon and MSN(they're partners
now,so I can connect to either) include such programs that would interfere
with making a connection?

Are you receiving an IP address from the router ?
Can you ping the local interface of the router ?

With my ISP both the modem's and the network card's MAC addresses have to be
"provisioned" in their system otherwise I cannot connect to the service. My
router allows the cloning of a MAC address so I simply used the network
card's MAC address for the router when I got it. My ISP "sees" the modem
normally but "thinks" the router is the "provisioned" network card.

Check your router's instructions to see if it has a cloning capability. If
so that may solve your problem.

Thanks to all those who responded to my question.I finally got the router
working,it turned out though it was connected and working,I couldn't get on
the net because my browser kept trying to use my old connection for
Verizon, when I deleted this connection from"My Network Places ",it
automatically used the connection to my router.
