rotated desktop

I have an XP machine that is showing the desktop rotated
90 degrees. Functionality is fine (as long as you do not
mind rotating your head!). This situation occured a
while back on a Windows 98 machine. Our only solution
was to re-install Windows...with not further issues.
Has anyone else heard of this and know of the root cause.
Any possible fixes other than re-install?

Thank-you and any suggestions appreciated.

This is a function of the video card. Check your display settings and the
advanced settings for your video card.

If you are familiar with the Registry you can edit the display settings.

Otherwise you can buy software to rotate the desktop. If you have an Nvidia display card the Detonator series of drivers includes a rotation facility.

Right click on your desktop, go to Settings, I not in
front of my PC with XP on win2000 pro, but I saw the
rotation tool setting in there, no need to reinstall just
for this reason.

That would only work if you had an on board intel video card. There are many
different kinds of video cards and if it supports the rotation setting there
are different ways on each card to enable or disable it.
