Rooster Alarm Sound?

I recently bought my father in law a dell with vista premium pre loaded.
Twice a day he gets a rooster alarm sound eminating from his PC -- even when
it's turned off and disconnected from broadband. He wants to turn it off.
Any suggestions?

Either the 'ReadyRooster' service (boom boom), or you've acquired a new
pet.

I doubt you mean it happens when it is turned off and I'll ignore the cute
comments by the other guys.

I also had this same problem on a new Sony VAIO and it drove me crazy. You
are going to hate me when I tell you that it is no longer doing it but I
can't remember how I resolved it. It might have been associated with some
version of AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) I had installed. If I remember
specifically where I found it, I'll let you know. I tried to locate the
..wav file in Sounds but it's not in there. I checked them all.

But, even though I don't have a solution, I just wanted to write and let
everyone know that your father in law is not crazy. It's a real pain in the
arse!

If you have AIM or Yahoo setup to play buddy sounds at logon/off they will
play whatever sound your 'buddy' has chosen.

Bingo. A very obnoxious feature of AIM... thankfully, it can
be turned off.
