I did an update from the Windows Update and selected to take a hardware
driver update for the Sony Ericsson PCMCIA card. Now it crashes the
computer out completely and does a memory dump and have to restart. If I
remove the Sony Ericsson card everything works perfectly.
I did a System Restore to a time prior to the upgrade, but it has made no
difference.
How do I remove the updated driver and revert to my previous driver.
Many thanks.

As a rule of thumb to follow in the future, do not ever run a hardware
update from Microsoft until it is advised safe from the manufacturer.
If you have a Win XP install CD, this is not the OEM restore CD supplied by
the OEM. This would be a Proper XP CD or a OEM branded XP CD that includes
updated drivers and other information.

Michael I would have thought the update was from the manufacturer and MS
were been kind in distributing it on the manufacturers behalf.

I do have a WinXP CD, but how do I rid the current driver and re-install the
original.
Is the driver in the Registry, as I am comfortable deleting stuff from the
Registry.
Many thanks.

As Michael says, don't ever install drivers from Windows Update. Please
trust our experience on this. ;-)

If rolling back the driver doesn't work, uninstall the device entirely
and reinstall with the latest driver from the device mftr.'s website.

Many thanks - yes I do trust you and promise faithfully not to do it again

Thanks Malke,
I wish Windows Update would either stop recommending any hardware updates,
or make it mandatory that the update is scanned and determined to be newer
and/or better/necessary than the current driver and Windows Update for
hardware should not ever have an option to install a hardware update
automatically.
