Roaming Profile problem

I've seen several posts for this, but no answers.

When logging on WinXP Pro SP1 to a Win2K SP4 domain, I
get the following error:
Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming
profile and is attempting to log you on with your local
profile....
DETAIL - The network is not present or not started

In the event log I get Event ID 1521, with the same
message. The DLL is userenv.dll 5.1.2600.1106.

I can access the internet and shares through network
neighborhood. I can access my exchange server through
Outlook. I cannot map drives or access my mapped drives,
I get "An error occured while reconnecting K: to
\\server\share ... the network is not present or not
started"

I know my network is OK, because I can get this error
while I'm logging on via PCAnywhere.

The solution:
1)Reboot (just logging off will not fix it)
2)Wait about 30 seconds to enter your password after
pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

This does not happen with Win2K Pro machines.

Any help is appreciated.

I have seen DNS problems cause this error. Make sure that
your W2K DNS server is the highest in the order for DNS
servers on the workstation. Check this by start, run,
ipconfig /all. Also make sure that the user can actually
access the network location where the profile is stored.
ex: \\servername\profiles\profilename

David:

All domain members must point to the inside DNS server, not to your ISP's
DNS server.
Then, setup your DNS server to use your ISP's DNS server via forwarding or
root hints.
