Can get French accents from Character map in System Tools if you don't need them a lot, need
french keyboard if you do.
Another use for Character map is in desparation, when you have lost your keyboard altogether.
Most applications will accept alt-codes to access characters you may not
have in your existing keyboard set.
I think you are looking for é which is Alt+0233 (type in the number while
holding the Alt key).
To find other alt codes, or simply copy/paste other special characters, you
can use the "Character map", located in "System tools" underneath
"Accessories".
