I cannot imagine there might be freeware for this, but it's worth a try !

I am wanting to rip a DVD-Audio disc with my DVD-ROM to 6 mono .WAVs. How do
i go about this and what software will i need, also do i rip the DVD-A to
..VOB first or to .DTS ?

Cheers

Hi:

Do you have a soundcard capable of recording as it plays back.. (like Sound
Blaster Audigy)?

Then you can loat up the creative sound recorder, or wave studio, or other
audio recorder, record the audio in a 'what u hear' setting while pleying
teh dvd audio. Then convert to mono and set the bitrate.

Just a workaround to what you are trying..

Good Luck

Head over to www.doom9.org and goto the download page Audio
section. Get Besweet and Besweet GUI. Put them in a folder
and click Besweet gui. Once in the programme (not the
wizard) choose on the right hand side the AC3 /OGG / PCM
button.
on the left choose the PCM box
click WAVE
click 16 bit (six) mono waves
now above. Select the path for besweet and then for the VOB
or AC3 file you wish to create the waves from (you may have
to rip from dvd first use DVD decrypter also on the download
page) use the drop down box for desired format and double
click the desired file for confimation of choice.

check out the guides also at doom9

Thanks very much Slippery for taking the time to explain, i'll give that a
go sometime today or tomorrow,

I tried it but i'm getting errors in Besweet. I rip to HD, so i've got loads
of .vob files. I show BeSweet the links to the .vob etc. When i click on
..vob to .ac3 button i get error "Failed(hr=0x80004005) in
pRFS->Load(SourceFile,NULL). Is there something obvious here that i'm doing
wrong ?

make sure you rip with DVD Decrypter.
make sure you double click the input file.
make sure you choose the wave settings (PCM Box)
thus having a .wav output file
'vob to wav' Button, not 'vob to ac3'.

i had a quick look for guides on the web and found nothing.
If you are still not having success i'll write one up and
make a web page in a few days.

Thanks Slippery, i'll have a go with that again tonight. It seems to be a
problem with azidts, it's when the 'DOS box' for azidts opens, that's when i
get the error no matter what my settings are in BeSweet. But i'll give it
another go tonight and see what's what !!

Thanks for all your help though, much appreciated !

Sorry, i'm going to have to admit defeat on this one. No matter what i do,
same result. I have now got azidts to work, but of the resultant mono .WAVs,
2 come out as a hiss (Pink noise), the others all sound the same (not
separate channels split).

I have now been on for 2 full nights with this and cannot figure it out,
i've checked the net but there's no info there either. Some setting must be
slightly wrong here, short of knowing what every tick box should be, i
cannot see how i can do this by trial and error.

Thanks again anyway for your help on this, Slippery, much appreciated. I'll
have to stick with ripping the audio manually through phono leads (really
time consuming !!!!)

ok not sure why you are using azidts. but maybe grab azid
1.9 from doom9.org and using besweet 'AZID 1' button locate
a path to it so besweet is aware of it

ok a bit more advanced use of DVD decrypter. use the Stream
Processing Tab, select only the AC3 stream you want and
choose 'Demux' from the choices below that. Now when it's
ripped from the DVD all you get is just the AC3 stream. Use
that in Besweet instead of the VOB. if you are comfortable
using DVD decrypter just rip a single chapter for quicker
results for testing purposes.

the hiss is usually a result of incorrect decryption. ie the
wrong formula used to decode a math problem.

Thanks again, i'll try that. I do have the link to azid.exe in besweet gui,
but for some reason it opens azidts.exe for some kind of operation itself (i
thought that was a bit strange also !).

I'm going to spend an hour or so on it tonight, i'll let u know how i get
on.

Thanks again for the info.

Well i tried that and it didn't work. You see when i use DVD Decrypter, and
choose Demux then just the 5.1DTS radio button, it rips to a VOB (not AC3).

When i put this into BeSweet, the resultant wav's are all 280bytes (i.e.
corrupt !)

Sorry to keep bothering you about this, i'm just very frustrated !

Further to the last, I think i've sussed the problem. I tried another DVD
and it worked. The original i am trying to get to work is a DVD-A (does that
make a difference ?????), and it shows up in DVD Decrypter as having the
video, the 2 audio stream, and the 5.1DTS stream. Now when i rip it, i get
the FR, FL. It's the Centre (or one of them anyway) which is coming out with
just 'noise'.

When i tried Disk 2, that then showed up as having the video, 2 channels and
then 6 Channels audio (unlike the DVD-A which showed up as 5.1DTS).

Can i rip the DVD-A in a different way, because i know it has 6 channels of
sound (when i play it through my stand alone DVD player different sound
comes out of ALL 6 speakers).

I presume i'm ripping the DVD-A in the wrong way (or at least, using BeSweet
with the wrong settings for this particular DVD-A).

But i will (i hope !!!!!!) get this working !

It may be a DTS thing. if the dvd-A has a AC3 5.1 try for
that. I don't have a DVD-A and generally don't worry about
DTS sound when messing around with DVD's. but i'll try
Demuxing to waves a DTS stream and see what i get and get
back to ya.

I had a little play with a DTS stream, No luck. you could
ask in the Doom9 forum, but i recommend using AC3 files if
possible. sorry i could not be more helpful.

Slippery

You have been more than helpful, Slippery. Thank you for taking the time to
help with this, at least i got the other DVDs working. I'd have given up
long before this if you hadn't been as helpful.

Thanks again.
