Right clicking an item in ALL PROGRAMS, then left clicking on OPEN does nothing

D

DJB

Running Windows XP SP2, all updates installed, P4 Prescott 3.2Ghz, 1GB ram.
PC runs great and is stable.

I have lost the capability in "ALL PROGRAMS" to right click a "folder icon"
and then left click on "OPEN" or "EXPLORE" to open this all programs folder
in windows explorer. When I try there is a momentary blink and nothing
happens.

Any ideas how to get this capability back?

Go to Control Panel and double click "Taskbar and Start Menu".
Click on the Start Menu tab.
Hit the Customize button.
In "Customize Start Menu", click on the Advanced tab.
Look in the "Start menu items" box and make sure there's a
check mark in the box next to "Enable dragging and dropping".
Click OK twice.

Good luck

Dear Nepatsfan:

I hope you see this post and get my thanks, as your suggestion to use
"SHEXVIEW.EXE" resolved my issue. I carefully read the instructions. When
looking at the context menu handlers there was only one non MS handler that
I did not recognize, the FoxBurner Plugin Shell Extension. I disabled it,
the problem was solved. In case you are interested, I entered the culprit
info below.

This foxburner plug-in was installed in [c:\programfiles\FoxBurnerPlugin] on
8/8/2006, which is about when I remember my issues started. I have no idea
what this plug-in does even though on www.foxburner.com there is a lot of
info about it, or what might have installed it or what problems I may
encounter by disabling it? I do not download and install software on a
whim, and am very careful what I do install. Time will tell.

Currently the only burning software I have installed is the Plextor
"Plextools" which work fine with the foxBurner Plugin Disabled. I had
to uninstall Roxio easy media creator DVD builder 7 on 11/16 after
installing MSIE 7 due to a conflict between these two.
http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000017CR I have ordered the newer
Roxio ver 9, and await its arrival to install it and restore full DVD
creation to my PC as I do import camcorder video and burn to DVD movies.

It never ceases to amaze me how complex the software and interactions have
become and how little control the end user has over all this. Those who say
the PC is simple to use and difficult to mess up are not realistic. It took
me more than 4 hours to figure out why DVD builder did not work as I had no
idea its failure was due to MSIE7 until I found the answer in Roxio KB.

Feel free to pass on my thanks to Mr. Srinivasan

Thanks
Sincerely
Don Brohm
