Right Click Folder Details Bar Columns Drop Down List Order "Bit Rate" is hidden

When you have a Folder set to display in Details View, you pick and
choose which detail columns to display.

The drop down list has X number of entries and then the word MORE
which displays even more details / column choices to turn on or off.

"Bit Rate" has always been in the drop down list, and not hidden until
you click on MORE...

I installed something on my PC, I think it is something that can
reveal codecs in the details view, but anyway, "Bit Rate" (which is
something I want to see quite often) is now shoved down on the list so
you can see it to turn it on or off, until you click on MORE... to see
additional details.

When you click MORE... there are four text buttons
SHOW
HIDE
MOVE UP
MOVE DOWN

and a text box

Width of Selected Column

One would think the MOVE UP, MOVE DOWN option allows you to adjust the
order of the drop down list, and it appears to do so, but as soon as I
exit by mousing on OK, this does not occur and "Bit Rate" is still
below the threshold i.e. it is hidden till you mouse on MORE....

Maybe all the MOVE UP, MOVE DOWN buttons do is MOVE SIDEWAYS, i.e.
affect the horizontal order of the columns displayed IF THEY ARE
CHECKED, and maybe the Width of selected column affects how many
pixels wide the column is if it is dispalyed.

HOW CAN I MOVE "Bit Rate" into the top of the available choices and
move some other detail like Muxer, Codecs or whatever down into the
MORE... list?
John "J.J." Jackson

To change the details displayed, on the View menu, click Choose Details. In
the Choose Details dialog box, click to select or clear the items you want
to view.

To change the order of the columns, in the Choose Details dialog box, click
Move Up or Move Down.

You can also left click and drag columns to any order you want.

You can also right click the column header and select and unselect Details.

You can also right click the column header, scroll down and select More...

You can also...

Click and Drag a header divider to change the width of a column.

Double click the header divider to open a column to the width needed to view
the longest entry. You have to drag it back to get it to be narrow again.

Ctrl + + (Hold the Ctrl key down and press the plus key on the numeric
keypad), this will adjust the all the column widths to the longest entry.
You have to drag them back to get them narrow again.

Thanks for responding, but this is all stuff I know (most of it).
Sorry but none of your suggestions address my question.

I can turn on display bit rate no problem. Thing is it is not in the
top list, the initial list of choices you see when you right click on
the column header.

It USED TO BE and it is on my other system. I think I installed
something, perhaps that can reveals additional file details, e.g.
muxer and/or codecs and maybe that pushed Bit Rate down on the list,
i.e. off the intial list, so you can not even get to it, without
mousing on MORE at the bottom of the drop down list of items to
display.

I just trieds something which was to right click on the folder /
customize / use this folder type as a template / specified music and
apply template to subfolders.

This did not cause Bit Rate to appear in the initial drop down list
when you right click on the column header. Right clicking is the
method I use most often.

The Menu Bar / View / Choose File Details seems to skip the
intermediate list and takes you to the full list of details that are
available.

Well, if you back up the key & then delete it, your choices for columns in a details view are
reduced to:

Name,Size,Type,Date Modified,Attributes,Date Created,Status

Adding the CLSIDs back one at a time restores various choices (you don't need to logoff/logon after
each change, just close & reopen an explorer window)

But there doesn't seem to be any way to control the order of the column choices -- it looks like
it's based on an alpha-sort of the CLSIDs.

That sure fixes the BitRate problem. LOL I don't need to do that, it looks
like you already have and I'll take your word for it.
But there doesn't seem to be any way to control the order of the column
choices -- it looks like it's based on an alpha-sort of the CLSIDs.

Unless, maybe, some 3rd party software adds some item(s) and messes up the
order.

Thank you for the info, Keith. Hey, I actually got the e before the i that

Open your registry and compare the values in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\audio
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image
with what I showed above.

Post back if they are different.

In JJ <jjyg[DELETE_THIS]@adelphia.net> hunted and pecked:

So, WTF was your question? You snipped it.

Here is my original question again. Note I can turn BitRate on and
off, it is just that on ONE of my two systems that field/column is no
longer in the initial top drop down list when you right click on the
column header bar.

HOW CAN I MOVE "Bit Rate" into the top of the available choices and
move some other detail like Muxer, Codecs or whatever down into the
MORE... list?

Hi Keith, ....

Unless, maybe, some 3rd party software adds some item(s) and messes up the
order.

Well the OP said:

So I'm guessing his program added a column handler. Since addition/deletion of these values takes
effect without logging off/on, a script could be written to toggle the handler in & out of
existence.
