Reviewing tool bar opens automatical

Patrick

Hello. If I open another user's excel file, whether on
the server or in an e-mail as an attachment, excel
automatically opens the reviewing tool bar.

Any idea on how to turn this function off?

Tell the people who email you not to use File>Send To Mail Recipient (for
review) and use (as attachment)instead. That is what triggers it

Actually I believe the annoying popup Reviewing toolbar is triggered by
certain custom file properties. Go into File, Properties and the Custom
tab. There you will probably find several custom properties that begin with
underscores (as I recall). If you delete them and save the workbook and
close the Reviewing toolbar, I think the next time you open the workbook the
toolbar will not appear.

I have a spreadsheet that I created from scratch that
still has the reviewing toolbar turn on every time I open
it. I checked for the custom properties as Peo suggested
below - there weren't any. Also, since I created it from
scratch, the "File>send to mail recipient" issue didn't
start it. This happens on just about any spreadsheet I
open, so would really love to know how to get rid of it
once and for all! Help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Andy

Your thread has disappeared for me, so I'm not sure how much of Jim's suggestion
Peo quoted.

This might be redundant:
Jim Rech posted a couple of techniques:

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

And if you want to kill it forever, then this seemed to work ok for me:

Open excel
hit alt-F11 to get to the VBE
hit ctrl-G to see the immediate window

Type this in and hit enter:
application.CommandBars("reviewing").Enabled = False

If you ever want it back, you can toggle it to true.

Another option that I saw on a word newsgroup that I thought was kind of neat
was to take ownership of the reviewing toolbar. Remove all the icons you don't
want and add all your favorites. And have it showing all the time.
