Hi. Im planning on building a new PC - havent built one for a while and a
bit out the loop on what's current.

Want the PC for games and general stuff like watching movies and listening
to odd bit of music. Want it last a few years (3+) and be easy on the
maintenance/driver front.

Really would like it to be quiet as possible and be able to O'clock to
scrounge some life out of it later.

Does this kit stack up?

your kit seems to be well above fine. the e6600 core 2 is far and away
the best performance affordable cpu on the planet and will blow
anything else away. I would scale up the power supply slightly to
just over 600W to handle future upgrades on graphics cards. What is
your graphics card going to be (no point in great CPU if using
onboard). for this system you are looking at a (radeon x1950)x 2 in
crossfire mode or just go all out for the latest nvidia 8800 if you
plan to play the best games, if not then a 7800gt should do. oh and the
entry level Xfi sound card should bring your tunes to life

good luck.

oh and if you are planning on running windows vista later on then you
will need to eventually look to direct x 10 graphics cards and the 8800
should cover it (around £400)

Cheers Uncle Frank. Are any of these graphics cards silent - or at least
considerate of noise?

My last PC sounded like a Chinnook taking off.

Also, I've read that the hiper brand is good EXCEPT for the modular ones.
Apparently they aren't grounded correctly. Swap over to an enermax liberty
620, and then all should be fine. -Dave
