Review Schedule Database

Hi,

I have a dilemma, my boss wants me to create a schedule database in access.
The schedule currently exist in excel. It's shows graphically dates business
units will be reviewed say in 2009. The schedule most show blocked dates like
holidays, training dates e.t.c. The business units need to be represented
graphically on this schedule based on the type of audit .e.g. OE Audit will
be depicted in blue, FR Audit will
be depicted in green e.t.c.
I have seen several schedule databases and even tried to mimic Duane Hookom
Outlook Style report but to no avail.

I can send the excel schedule if anyway want to take a look at it.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

If it works in excel - best to stick to that. Is there a reason why your
boss wants it one in access

You don't say why the requirement is to do this in Access, but if it's
possible you might consider a project scheduling tool, like Microsoft
Project. It already has an entire UI just for this kind of application. No
programming would be needed. Just enter your resources and tasks. Project is
a bit of overkill if there's nothing more to this than what you mention, but
it does get you very nice interfaces and reports without needing much work.
If you're just displaying the schedule, and not keeping track of resource
usage, maybe Outlook is all you need?

The is reason that we are having problems with updating the spreadsheet
(obsolete data) because several users edit the spreadsheet, plus I created a
database for most of the other tools we use.

Peter,

The flex database can work, if oly I can figure out how to account for
holidays and other special dates like training .e.t.c.
Any thoughts

Thanks

I don't think showing holidays or special dates would be much of a
problem, you just need a bit of VBA code to identify them and change
the grid display accordingly. I normally show holiday dates in a
different colour but you may want to use a different scheme. The demo
program shows weekend days in a different colour which would be
similar. As long as the data is stored correctly in your tables you
can write queries to extract the relevant dates to show on the Flex
Grid.
