Reverts back to stereo desktop speakers

I have a Soundblaster Audigy player card.

In control panel sound options, I set the speaker
configuration to 5.1 surround, everytime I start the
computer, it has reverted back to stereo desktop speakers.

Any ideas please?

I have found out what problem was...in Creative Audio HQ,
selecting Mixer, Advanced mode. I unchecked 'Synchronize
with control panel. Problem solved.
