Revert to IE6 problem

I tried IE7, didn't like it, (usual toolbar complaint). Uninstalled 7, 6
came back, everything's copasetic, or so I thought.
Before, when I Googled, a click on the results page would bring up a new
window, and another results page click would bring the new page up in
the same new window. Now, the first results page click brings up the new
window fine, but subsequent clicks do absolutely nothing.
This problem also manifests itself, I think, in some of my other
browsing, for example, a banking page has several options that don't
bring up new windows as designed, or bring up the window, but can't find
the page requested.
As I said, this all worked before trying IE7. Any ideas?

Did you make a restore point just before you installed IE7?
Can you go back to a restore point before the IE7?
Google can lose it's "preference" settings, have you checked these?

Google settings have not changed. No viable restore point. Must be a
registry setting changed somewhere to cause this, just need to find it.
