Returning Outlook 2003 BCM data file to Outlook 2002 (XP) ?

OK, I finished up my trial version of Outlook 2003 BCM (Business Contact Manager) Beta. My system was a little shakey, so I rebuilt it. Restalled Outlook XP and of course it could not read my Outlook 2003 BCM data file. That is understandable, so I re-installed Outlook 2003 and BCM but it now says it still cannot read my .pst file? I have a backup of my .pst file. I was hoping to access my data, maybe able to convert it back to Outlook 2002 (XP)

I'm I forced to now upgrade to Outlook 2003 w/ BCM

For some reason I remember some sort of Beta update, but that is no longer available via Windows Office Update. Maybe that is my most pressing issue to get to my data

I'm a little confused about what you're trying to do. BCM doesn't use a .pst
file. All the data is stored in a database.

IIRC, beta copies of Office 2003 expired November 30. You might need to turn
back the clock to an earlier date.

Thanks for responding so quickly.

As for turning back the clock, I'm not sure that will help recovering my data. Looks like I need to do some research on where your data files go/turn into once u install BCM for Outlook 2003. My .pst file is a whopping 250 MB (I know not the best of ideas, I'm going to archive it, clean it up as soon as I can get at it again...) Hopefully, I'm able to recover...

I tried to install the production verison of BCM (I removed the beta BCM) with use with Outlook 2003 beta... that didn't work... got some strange errors. not really any surpise there.... I have a fully licensed copy of Outlook 2003 on activated on another computer.

anyway my questions...

Where does Outlook 2003 w/BCM put all your data? what files should be backed up?
Is it possible to convert Outlook 2003 w/BCM data back to Outlook 2002(XP)?

You can create a pst-file compatible with both version of Outlook indeed.

As I said before, BCM data is in a separate database. It is *not* in a .PST
file. It's in the database.

Do you mean you want to convert your *Outlook* data (not BCM data) for use
with Outlook 2002?

I didn't back up my database from BCM... o well... not sure what i lost yet. (I really did not use the features much
But I did save my .pst file from my Outlook 200

Roady, That web page you suggested is interesting. It has given me a few ideas, thanks... I'll let you know

In the end, I think I'm going to upgrade this box to Office 2003, but for now I need to dumb down this .pst file to get access to it on Outlook 2002 (XP)

You're welcome! Let me know if you have some trouble or suggestions.

Just to make sure it's clear; BCM is only available for Outlook 2003.
Backing up/restoring BCM data won't help you anything as long as you don't
have Outlook 2003.

You'll need to create a new Outlook 97-2002 .pst file, then export from
Outlook 2003 to that file.
