Retrieving Windows serial number remotely

Can we retrieve the Windows serial number ( the one that used in the
nstallation ) on another computer within a network ?
Yes there are a lot of commercial softwares out there for Windows inventory
purpose, but I need no more than the serial number.
Any links, scripts, or else wil be very much appreciated.

I suppose you could Remote Desktop into the box, copy something like the
Nirsoft Product Key applet to the target computer, and then run it.
