retreiving private documents

My computer suddenly turned off and upon restart it could not start windows.
It could not be repaired as well. Hence, I installed fresh copy of windows xp
on D drive. My problem is that I no longer can access my personal documents
which are still saved in my persoanl folder on C drive (which were made
private). I have tried to create a new user account with the same name and
password on window installtion but still getting access denied error. Can
anyone tell me how can I retreive my documents from C drive?
