have finished and remove the restricted groups policy, are the original

permissions reset?

There are no permissions with restricted groups, nor even rights.

Restricted groups arrange for GROUP MEMBERSHIP to be
maintained as specificed in the restrictions (neither removed
nor added to the list given.)

You can expect the group membership to remain after removing
the restriction since it doesn't (at that point) 'know' whether YOU
or the restriction changed the membership.
