I am setting up a courtesy Windows 2000 Pro workstation
for a hotel, for guests to use while staying with us. I
had a windows 98 machine but they downloaded so much stuff
that eventually the machine crashed. Is there a way for me
to restrict downloads on this machine so that they can
surf the web but are not allowed to download anything, I
understand about the content advisor, but thats just site
restrictions not downloads. Was wondering if there might
be a third party application that I could use for this
particular logon for the guests.

Thanks
John

Try getting familure with Group Policy in Microsoft
Console. To have a look at Microsoft Console....
- Logon as a local administrator
- Start - Run
- Type in mmc /a and click OK
(Microsoft Console launches to Console Root)
- Click File - Add/Remove Snap-in
- Click the Add button
- Click Group Policy - Add - Finish
- Click Close - OK
- Click the + signs to expand (tunnel down) to:
Local Computer Policy - User Configuration -
Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Internet
Explorer - Browser Menus
- Double click "Disable Save this program to disk option"
at the right
- Click the explain tab to read about the function of
this policy.
If you enable the policy click File - Save - name it (if
you keep the default the policy file appears in
administrative tools). Look at some of the other settings
you can lock down while you are there, MMC is a very
powerfull administrative utility.
