Restoring Windows XP pro

A while back I deleted some spyware (IST.exe) Now I seem to be missing some
important files. I tried to restore to a previous good setting but after
going through the motions, I always get the same message "unable to restore
to previous setting".
Also when I hit "ctrl-alt-delete" all I get is the "cpu usage screen" with
no tabs to go to anything else. The only way to quit this screen is to right
click on the icon in the taskbar and select "close".
I'm using XP pro with SP2.
Anybody have any ideas on how to restore these files?

Hi

Double click on the edge of the Task Manager. If SR isn't working:

One or more of the System Restore files could have been corrupted - try
turning SR off/on - but I'm afraid that you will lose any existing
checkpoints:

Right click My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After
that 1st reboot go back into SR and disable 'Turn off System Restore on all
drives' and reboot your PC again. After that 2nd reboot you should have one
new SR checkpoint.

Sorry about the blank post. To restore the files you've lost you can do a
reinstall not a repair of windows xp pro, if you have the CD. My only
warning is, if it is not an sp2 cd you will have to install sp2 again and you
will receive some error messages when loading office. All of them can be
fixed through microsofts website.
