I recently deleted rundll.32 because of a Trojan virus
infection. How do I restore a clean version of it? How
crucial is it to restore this in a timely manner?

Eric,

System File Protection should put this file back for you. To find out what
copies you have of rundll32.exe on your machine open a command window.
Navigate to %windir% and then type dir 'rundll32.exe /s' Typically System
File Protection will grab files from %windir%\system32\dllcache. Or if you
want to run System File Protection then type 'sfc /scannow' in a command
window. Here is a page that describes System File Protection in better
detail - http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/driver/sfp/wfp.mspx.

I hope this helps,
Dennis Davis [msft]
