restoring a dc

Ok...we had a server crash, we have good backups, we bought a new server, i
installed windows 2000 and then the backup agent for veritas, i did a
restore from another server over the network, but when i booted up after i
restored it it didnt do anything, i did system state, winnt ...etc the files
are on c:\ under folders called active directory,registry,winnt....any ideas
what i did wrong?

Did You booted into Directory restore mode and restore AD ?

Make sure your boot.ini file is updated to reflect the changes in hardware.

do i need to promote it first to dc then restore in directory restore mode?
Make sure your boot.ini file is updated to reflect the changes in hardware.

And once you get it all physicaly restored,
then if it doesn't work well enough to function
and clear up any hardware differences do a
"Repair Install" from the original CDROM.

'Install' into the SAME directory from the
CDROM and make sure it ask you if you wish
to "REPAIR".

(then check windows updates)

isnt Directory restore mode only if its a DC?
