I restored my computer to a previous date, however, data on a separate that
contains downloads, etc. no longer contained files added since that date.
How is that possible. I just restored back to the date where I knew the
files had existed and they were there. I thought it only changed back,
installs and system files .. that sort of thing. Any ideas on why restore
is doing this. Is there a setting.

Alternatively I could disconnect the drive in question.
I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

EXE files are part of the System Restore function.

If I create a Restore Point on 1/5/06 and I download some EXE files on 1/7 and then restore
the system back to the Restore Point of 1/5/06, those EXE files didn't exist at that time,
therefore they will be removed.

Hi Diana,

The missing files must have been monitored file types that System
Restore monitores.

See this list of Files and Folders System Restore Monitors:

Is this an external hard drive?

David, you are write ... they were exe files. Strangely enough, on
"particians" of my main drive, exe remained intact, but not on the separate
physical drive. interesting how that worked. I restored back ... removed
that physical drive, then re-restored and all is good. It didn't touch any
exe's on the other partitions and the separate drive remains intact.
Thanks for the tip.
