i have had this windows xp home , for around six months
now.

well i have needed to use the restore to a earlier
point a few times , but it has never worked , i
get:cannot restore to this point. it takes out all my
windows updates and my directx , but thats all.

i was wondering that if i installed a full version
(retail) WIN. XP (got oem now) it might fix it.

if any of you fine folks have time , i would appreciate
a little advice.

thanks much

Installing another copy of Windows will not make a difference, unless
you clean install, and that would be way overkill. System Restore is a
nice tool to undo recent changes - when it works. When System Restore
goes bad, the only thing you can do is disable it (from the System
Restore tab in the Control Panel System applet). Reboot the system to
clear out all the old points, and then enable System Restore again.
Make sure you've allowed enough room for it on the hard drive (if you
have a custom size set).

Your post is unclear. What do you mean by it never worked, but "it
takes out all my windows updates and directx"?
