Restore point problems

I am trying to install the updates that recently appeared on WindowsUpdate,
like KB834707, on XP SP2.
They are downloaded by WindowsUpdate without any problem, but then the
wizard seem to be frozen while saying that the installation is being
initialized and nothing happens.
If I try to install them manually by downloading the individual files, same
thing happens : it freezes while displaying "Creating restore point" in the
"Details" box and "Checking for necessary space" above (I have enough space).

I also noticed that the software I uses for spyware blocking (spybot) also
hangs when creating the restore point.

What's wrong with that, and how can I install the updates to keep a secure
OS ?

For the installation box, it does take a while to initialize.

For Spybot, it seems to freeze with me also, but it actually dosent. The
information bar is hidden behind the Restore Point box. The get it to the
front go down to your taskbar and click on the Spybot button.

No Problem, but as goes for the installing taking long, I am not an expert on
that. If the problem occurs than you might want to find out from another
person.
Happy Holidays:)

If Windows Update is downloading you should have connection activity. If
Windows Update is installing the update you should have hard drive
activity. No activity for a long time means that it's hung up. Possibly
a bad download. Uninstall the patch from "Control Panel" - "Add or
Remove Programs" - "Windows Updates", then try to download and install
the patch again.
