That's ludicrous. The brand of a CPU determines how fast a pc's performance
degrades. If you believe this then I've got a bridge you may be interested
in buying.

Duh -- what did I say? "If you start off with a high-
powered PC, like a gaming-capable system, it will
still seem very responsive even it does slow down
relative to its initial performance." What part did
you not get?

Celeron-based systems are entry level cheap
systems that aren't that fast to start off, and so
have very little redundant power. Athlon 64-based
systems are couple of steps up and also tend to
come with more memory and better video. If you
use the PC primarily for web surfing, email, MS
Office applications and maybe something like
iTunes, you probably wouldn't see much difference
between a new Celeron-based system and a new
Athlon 64-based one. However a year later, after
the performance of each degrades, it'll be much
more noticeable in the cheap Celeron-based system
than in the Athon 64 one. A badly out of tune
Corvette will seem a lot more responsive than an
out of tune Dodge Neon, even if you only drive cars
just for commuting, shopping and to visit friends and
relatives.

Too bad about the Pats, but it was an entertaining
and exciting game.

Yep, but after running great through the first half, they slowed down
in the second... Hey, just like a Windows based PC!

Well, they didn't slow down *that* much....

I own and drive a race car. I have seen Neons beat Corvettes on the track. A
lot depends on the driver just as with Windows.

I've been a Colts fan since the showdown with the Jets in Superbowl III. It
was an exciting game but the right team won.

If an Indy fan drove a bluetooth-enable 2005 Dodge
Neon from Indianapolis to Boston at 65 miles an
hour while talking on a Windows Mobile powered
cell phone and navigating with a Celeron-powered
notebook plugged into the cigarette lighter with
a Sprint Mobile Broadband Connection PC card,
and a Pats fan drove a 1968 Corvette Stingray
to Indianapolis at 70 miles an hour while talking on
a Palm Treo smart phone and navigating with an
Atlon-powered notebook plugged into a spare
car battery with a Cingular 3G BroadbandConnect
PC card, how far would each get before having to
stop for a coffee and a donut?

The Pats fan would be late in any case because they would spend an
inordinate amount of time searching for some Flutie Flakes in honor of the
best quarterback they ever had.

Did you know that there is actually a road in
Framingham, MAss, bordering Flutie's home
town of Natick, called "The Flutie Pass"?

Not that this has anything to do with getting XP
back up to speed....

I'm in Canada and had season's tickets to the BC Lions when he played here.
He is an amazing athlete and one of the most entertaining quarterbacks I've
ever seen.
