restore full size desktop on windows xp

Windows xp desktop page has suddenly shrink to 3/4 of its
normal size. As a result I have black space around the
desktop. How do I restore the desktop to full size. I am
using a Dell lap top

Right-Click on the desktop, choose properties, go to settings and change
your screen resolution.
