Restore disk won't work

I have XP Home Edition, and the restore disks won't start up.

CD-ROM is first priority in BIOS.

The restore disks only work with emachines, which is what I have, but I
upgraded the D:\ to a DVD-ROM when the original CD drive broke, would this
make any difference to how the restore disks run?

Is there anything I can do to try and get them working, or can I get
replacement disks or something anywhere else?

Thanks.

Are the restore cds for that exact pc,they must be mfg only for the pc
they were configured to....If they are,a dvd-cdrw-cdrom drive would have
no bearing on it.Is the dvd jumper pins set properly to the other IDE
device.

The disks are definitely the ones which came with this pc. Not sure about
the dvd jumper pins, how do I check that please?

Thank you.

razielle,

When you installed the dvd drive in place of the cd drive... there would
have been, on the back of the drive, about 8 pins, with a plastic connector.

If you're lucky there is also printed info on the drive itself, that says if
you put the connector like so (and a diagram), then the drive would be
classed as a SLAVE drive, or MASTER or CS (cable select).

for picture see

the little plastic connector is designed to be (dropped!) swapped to the
setting you want.

If you have 2 drives sharing one cable, then set one to master and the other
to slave.

If you only have 1 drive on each cable, set them both to master.

Cheers
