b4 I begin, has anyone else noticed how much
the "Search" function of this newgroup facility really
sucks!! one can perform the same search multiple times
and get different results each time - never knowing he is
thus missing the solution to a problem - in a posting
which is not displayed, but which DOES fall into the
search parameters!

I can search on the word "background" and not get the
posts I, myself, made with this word in the subject line -
so, I have to search on my name!

Really Poor!!

But no worse I suppose than microsoft's own indifference
to the plight of its (where else can they go?) users.

I refer to update kb832894.

Thank you XTGUY!!!

This update made it impossible for my custom background
color colors to display in ie6. as per xtguy - go to
Control Panel and "Add/Remove", then go down to microsoft
Q832894 and remove/reboot. Got my colors back!!!!

no thanks to msoft, which I'm sure knows about this bug
and could have posted something!!!!

Aushadi,

I'm glad it worked for you as it did for me. Still no mention of the
bug from MS.

On an incidental note, just this last week they had to replace my
computer at work. It had a brand new installation of Win2K with all
updates and service packs, etc. Guess what? Same 'white background'
problem! Aargh! It was making me crazy. The computer did not have
Q832894 installed but did have the earlier problem child-Q824145.
Luckily, the IT guy gave me administrator privileges, and I
uninstalled Q824145-the so-called "IE Security update". My custom
color backgrounds came back immediately after uninstalling!

So either one of these 'non-updates' can cause the problem.

I also see that MS has different versions of Q824145 (I don't remember
the exact numbers but it was something like v 1.01, 1.02, etc.) I did
install one of the later Q824145 patches and it worked OK. So I am
guessing that MS did go back and fix the problem in Q824145 and that I
originally had downloaded one of the first versions.

I haven't checked yet whether the same situation exists with Q832894.
