I need to restore these two files:
kstvtune.ax
ksxbar.ax
from the Vista install DVD.
Is this possible and how?

George Valkov said:Hello Richard and thanks for the advices!
Actually you didn't got me right, because I explained my final goals in too
brief.
I do have a backup of my system.
I don't actually have Windows Vista installed on my computer. I just
installed Windows 2008 server yesterday and wanted to use the Video-capture
device, I tracked to find out why it is not working and found that these two
files were missing on the 2008 server. The closest version are the files
from Windows Vista, so I wanted to take these two files and patch my system.
I wanted to do this without having to install Vista and remove it right
after.
I have the files from my Windows 2003 SP2 Retail license, but this is a
completely different platform. The files work, but are not stable and
performance is degraded. The video plays a few continuous frames and then
jumps a few frames backward and so on.
Thank You for the replay anyway!
PS: The files should be here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kstvtune.ax
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ksxbar.ax
:
| You can try to use SFC (System File Checker). Open a command prompt with
| administrator privileges.
|
| If you type SFC /? you will see the following:

| C:\Windows\system32>sfc /?

|
| Scans the integrity of all protected system files and replaces incorrect

|
| SFC [/SCANNOW] [/VERIFYONLY] [/SCANFILE=<file>] [/VERIFYFILE=<file>]
| [/OFFWINDIR=<offline windows directory> /OFFBOOTDIR=<offline boot

|
| /SCANNOW Scans integrity of all protected system files and repairs

|
| /VERIFYONLY Scans integrity of all protected system files. No repair

|
| /SCANFILE Scans integrity of the referenced file, repairs file if

|
| /VERIFYFILE Verifies the integrity of the file with full path <file>.
| No re

|
| /OFFBOOTDIR For offline repair specify the location of the offline
boot

|
| /OFFWINDIR For offline repair specify the location of the offline

| e.g.
|
| sfc /SCANNOW
| sfc /VERIFYFILE=c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll
| sfc /SCANFILE=d:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\

|
| SFC will validate all of your original system files and replace those that
| are corrupted/damaged.
|
| As with anything that has to do with computers, nothing is 100% fool
proof.
| Create a system image before trying this repair. Many people use TrueImage
| HOME 10.0 (build 8,027)
