restarting xp professional

Can i get some help with a question I have xp professional on my computer
that got from a family member and i have the certificate of authenticity
sticker on the computer, but we dont have the start up disk for the computer,
is there a way to get the start up disk for the computer from microsoft or
what other way can I get my system back up and running?

Why can't you get it from the family member? Only one of you can legally
use it, so it's of no use to them.

The presence of a COA attached to the computer case usually means the copy
of XP is OEM. If that's the case MS can't help you. You would have to
contact the computer OEM where that copy was obtained for a replacement
which could be a recovery CD or an installation CD.

The product key on the attached sticker will normally work with a generic XP
Pro OEM CD, so if know someone who has one of those, make a disk copy of it.
There is nothing unique about the CD. It will work with any product key for
that type of XP (in this case XP Pro OEM).
