Install the Recovery Console to the hard drive. When you
boot you'll get a dual boot menu, the recovery console IS a
command line interface to XP. Sorry there is no DOS in XP.

You don't. Windows XP is not built on DOS the way Windows 9X was,
and there's no DOS mode to start in. That's one of the main
reasons it is much more stable than Windows 9X was.

You can boot from a DOS diskette, but if you have an NTFS drive,
you won't be able to see it from a DOS boot (at least not with
special software like NTFSDOS).

You can do search on C drive for COMMAND PROMPT, drag it to your
desktop, then click on it and get what looks like a DOS screen. Maybe
that will help?

Ben too
