Resolution

I just have a new computer and I connected a Flat Monitor
to it. The icons and the screen are so big, so I went to
Display and tried to get a better resolution but it
defaults 16 bit high color and resolution of 640 and it
does not let me change it. I know my computer at work has
the option to increase or decrease the resolution but my
computer at home is locked. I found an option under
Settings that shows " ALL MODES",when I click on it I see
the correct resolution but as soon as I select it a
distortion comes in the corner of the screen as well as
the color. Can someone help me?

Thanks

sounds like you need to install the drivers for your graphics card and/or monitor. What does it say just above the resolution slide bar? I'm guessing it says something like 'default monitor on unknown

I think the unlock modes you are refering to is for refresh rates only not screen mode. As you have an LCD display you really don't need to worry about this (or at least not yet). 60Hz is normal for LCD. setting it to a higher rate than it can handle will cause the screen to go into standby or distort

One other point is that not all screens are the same, so it may well be that you are never able to achieve the same desktop resolution as you have at work. I would have thought you'd be able to get up to at least 1024x768 though
