Resizing windows

How can I resize windows (In the Registry I suppose) so that they do not
open close to the top f the screen?

My problem is that I have a new Toshiba wide-screen and had to resize the
resolution so that photos would not get distorted. The result is that
whever I open a window the top is hidden beyond the top of the screen.

Now, If I could force the windows to open an inch or so further down, it
would make life a lot easier.

Thanks

Not so easy if the title is hidden off-screen.
Probably have to temporarily reset the resolution.
There is at least one program available

http://www.actualtools.com/?ref=aim41_prg

which will set the location and size as percent of
the screen area. (I use it.) No doubt there are
others; maybe even freeware.

: With the window open drag it to the location you
want and then close it.

Thanks but maybe I did not explain myself too well.

When you open a window, its location (as far as I know) is dictated by the
programmed information in a particular key in the register. If you change
the values of that (those) keys you should be able to get the windows to
open higher/lower/to the right or to the left, I think...! And that's the
problem because I don't want to mess around with the registry without expert
help.

JS was correct. Unless the window is unique to
some program, drag it and size it to taste and
then either a) close it by picking the X in the
corner -- not Close on the Taskbar or in the File
menu. Or b) the same except use <CTL> while
picking the X. You could probably change the
registry but it seems like a lot of work. One
change for every program.

Not for every program: I'm referring to MS Windows XP and MS Programs: IE
and OE.

Jorge

Should work with IE, with one caveat: You can't
freeze the window maximized. So stretch it to
almost max and then ctl-close (with the X).

Some times cascading windows will bring an off-screen window back on-screen.

This will arrange all open windows
1. Right-click an empty area on the taskbar.
2. Click Cascade Windows.

* Windows that are reduced to taskbar buttons will not be displayed.
* To restore your windows to their previous state, right-click an empty area
on the taskbar, and then click Undo Cascade

Left click the Taskbar to give it focus.
Hit Shift + F10 to open the menu.
Hit the S key to highlight Cascade Windows.
or
Hit the H key to highlight Tile Windows Horizontally.
or
Hit the E key to highlight Tile Windows Vertically.
Hit Enter to execute the highlighted command.

Left click the Taskbar | Shift + F10 | Hit the S key | Hit Enter

Sometimes you can use the Tab key to get focus, depends on what you have
open.

Also hitting Alt + Spacebar to open the shortcut menu for the active window,
then X to Maximize the window may work.

Hi ! Did you have any success with the replies you've received ? I've tried them all, even some using the Control and Shift key cominations; but my Windows still open only Minimized, or at the extreme top of my Window Screen. Please let me know if you find one that works. Thank You ! Ed VA
