I am using an external monitor plugged into my laptop. Each time I start up
I have to set my monitor's view so that it fits the screen properly. I must
go into "control panel", "display" then "advanced settings" then "display"
and click on the "monitor" radio button. Once I do that the window asks me
if I want to save these settings - and I click "yes". After that I hit
"apply" and "OK". My monitor then displays the screen properly. But these
settings do not save and I have to go through this process each time I start
up. Any suggestions?

Maybe one of these:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 54. (r-h column) Save Settings on Exit

Line 30. Windows XP Doesn't Save User Settings
